The Side Ways
"The Side Ways" is a novel I’ve had in my head for around… four years. It actually started as the plot of a graphic novel, and was a partnership that I was working on with an artist who left to pursue other interests (ie, a job in NYC), and the story languished for a couple years. What a word… languished. Sounds so poetic. It didn’t "languish." It brooded and hung out in a corner of my mind and kicked me for not spending more time on writing. It was badly behaved and tried to get my attention but was much harder to work on than individual poems or blog entries. So I ignored it.
By putting it here — in public — my hope is that I’ll force myself to un-languish the dang thing. Maybe get a few interested readers and/or editors to prod me along with the process. Keep me honest with myself. Avoid languish. Anybody who wants to read the chapters as they go up is free to, but I don’t want them spidered and indexed, so I’m password protecting them, except for the first one. If you’d like to read beyond Chapter 1.1, shoot me an email at (humans translate): awhavens [aat] sanestorm [dott] com and I’ll let you know how to break the horrifyingly complex code. All the chapters will have the same password, and it’s diabolically simple… so don’t let it be a barrier to your (hopeful) enjoyment of the piece.
The genre is… fantasy. But not with elves and dwarfs and magicians and faeries. I like that kind of fantasy, too. But it’s not what I’ve been put on earth to write, eh? "The Side Ways" is about… different points of view. And how looking at things can change them. It’s chaos fantasy. Heisenbergian fantasy. The first chapter, in five parts, is completely written. I’m well underway editing chapter two. I’ll post those bits as they come off the keyboard. The outline of the whole book is pretty much done in my head. I think it has a happy ending. Depends on your definition of happy
And, really. I need some help with this. So if you’re looking for something (hopefully) fun to read, and would like to provide some feedback, I’d sure appreciate the support. Thanks.
