Good new word from Word Spy: co-rumination. n. The extensive and repeated discussion, particularly among friends, of problems and negative feelings. Also: corumination.

This amuses me even more, considering the roots of the word “rumination.”

  1. “The extensive and repeated discussion, particularly among friends, of problems and negative feelings.”

Another amusing term is “downward counterfactuals” although this refers not just to discussions of problems and negative feelings but also what might have been and if only…

For instance, Sarah Palin might be re-thinking her cramming for Charlie’s interview: “If only I hadn’t skipped that highlighted paragraph on the Bush Doctrine.”
