It's fully understandable that you'd be "smarmy" about such things, being plagiarized is not only infuriating but also demands a sense of justice. One of the worst things that can happen is someone getting away with it. I've been experiencing it first-hand for over a year now, and the only thing we can really do is strive to be better then our imitators and let them disappear into obscurity. So far it's going well. :)

I like your take on the whole Katie-CBS issue, but it's a shame that no one who could do soemthing seems to care too much about it. In case you hadn't heard about the recent Goldman/Kelly artwork ripoff, it's equally infuriating because the plagiarist is selling the artwork directly. You can read my take on it here: http://www.critical-hits.com/?p=763

@jslothower: Yeah, as a college teacher, I also deal with the issue occasionally from that angle. I make it real clear to my students, who will work in advertising, that in real life, plagiarism can get you and your agency fired, and land you, your agency and your client in real hot water. In my class, it's grounds for an immediage "F" and a walk to the academic board.

@Kurt: He just stopped using my stuff.

I don't see where the plagiarist ever told you that he would put your name back on your stuff before he uses it next time. Did he?

Thanks for writing about your personal experience, as I think it's good for people to learn about the different aspects of plagarism. I have been following this rather closely on my blog at hightechparent.blogspot.com My reasons for following it include that I used to teach college journalism and multimedia and regularly talked about the seriousness of plagarism. Unfortunately, I caught a few doing it and that is hard, weird experience as well.
