Not So Much
If I could change color
would you love me forever?
If I could change color
would you love me like an angel,
like a hero, like a god?
Not "color" as in "ethnic,"
like Caucasian, Asian, African…
Not color like a tattoo,
or a sunburn or a tan.
I didn’t catch the mixing of the metaphors the first time through.. When I reread it today, it meant so much more realizing that it was all trying to describe loves in the terms of sommething else described in the terms of something else. The speaker is real, and human, and not a mixed metaphor.
